MICKY Higham hopes to work in tandem with Daryl Clark to improve Warrington Wolves’ attacking fortunes, starting against Huddersfield Giants tomorrow, Friday.

Usually exchanging spells at hooker, 34-year-old Higham says Wolves have worked this week at using the pair together.

And the former St Helens and Wigan man is confident, alongside 22-year-old Man of Steel Clark, they can cause opposition problems.

“Hopefully we can form a nice partnership,” said Higham. “I like playing together when I come on, and Daryl comes back on.

“We’re trying to work on that, how we can be a little bit more effective when we’re on together. Our main strengths are picking the ball up and running.

“If you can get the rest of the team on the back of that we can blow some teams away, cause problems.”

Higham also believes Clark’s arrival has given him a lift.

“He’s a young, level-headed kid, pretty quiet,” he added. “I’ve got quite pally with him, we play in the same position, spend a bit of time together and he’s a really nice guy.

“He’s willing to learn and he’s got some really good skills on him. Sometimes I sit back and think it’s a pleasure to play with him.

“It’s certainly been good to play against him in the past, but now you’re on his side it’s even better.

“I’d like to think, looking back, when I was 21, 22, I was in a similar boat to him. I could trap in those days, get out the blocks and run.

“I was here, there and everywhere. My game had to change as I got older, but it’s given me a bit of a buzz playing with him.

“Fresh face, fresh legs, young kid – I’d like to think we can complement each othervery well. I’m enjoying it.”

Higham has two tries to his name already this season, but insists he is always looking to improve.

“It usually takes me about 15 games to get over the whitewash,” he laughed. “It’s always nice to get over, but I’ve got some improvements in me, definitely.

“I’m pretty happy, but there are a few things I need to add to my game. Tony (Smith) will always challenge you on that, even if you’re playing well.”

And Friday’s game pits him against an old teammate in Giants head coach Paul Anderson, whose side have won three on the bounce.

“I know Paul Anderson, I played with Paul at St Helens, I’m sure he’ll be getting them revved up,” explained Higham.

"A lot of people were surprised early on in the year when they couldn’t buy a win. They’ve turned the corner really quickly and are one of the in-form teams in Super League.

"I thought they were unlucky to not get something out of the Leeds game. For once they were the better team for parts of that game.

“They’ll be full of confidence. They’ve got a few scores to settle with us as we’ve had the better of them in these past few years.

"They’ve got a big pack, something we relish. We enjoy playing against big packs and always see it a as challenge.

"Half backs (Jamie) Ellis and (Danny) Brough are playing really well. Danny Brough is the lynchpin for them with his kicking game.

“We need to show the intensity we showed against Leeds for 80 minutes.”
