Hawgood at English Championships
WARRINGTON badminton star Alistair Hawgood was in action for Cheshire at the under 17s English National Championships on Saturday.
Hawgood, who was recently part of the Warrington League under 19s representative team that won a Cheshire Junior title, reached the last 16 in London.
Playing with Greg Saunders from Northamptonshire, the pair won their opening matches to top the group and enter the knockout stage.
That included a close-fought game where they overcame a higher-ranked pairing from Surrey 19-21 21-17 21-18.
But Hawgood and Saunders met their match in the last 16, losing to Sam Smith and Sean Chal 17-21 11-21.
