TOM Murray finished four over par on the first day at the African Open in South Africa.

The Lymm golfer shot 76 on his latest European Tour outing at East London Golf Club.

The 25-year-old endured a difficult day, birdying once during Round One but hitting three bogeys and a double bogey on the par four 362-yard fourth hole.

It leaves Murray nine shots behind the current leader, Ireland’s Kevin Phelan, with many still to finish.
