WARRINGTON Athletics Club runner Harriet Knowles-Jones retained her North of England Cross Country Championship title in style on Saturday with the biggest winning margin of the day.

The under 17s runner won by 45 seconds in 16mins 27secs.

The club’s other individual medal came for Sam Evans, who won bronze in the under 13s boys’ race in 10mins 45secs.

Evans was backed up by Jordan Jones in 13th, 11mins 8secs, Lucas Hayes in 66th, 12mins 4secs and Toby Abbott in 96th, 12mins 27secs, to take the team bronze with 178 points.

Warrington’s under 17s women also took the team bronze with winner Knowles-Jones supported by Jasmine Dobson in 37th, 19mins 11secs, Lizzie Smith in 41st, 19mins 37secs, and Sarah McGrail in 42nd, 19mins 40secs, to finish with 121 points.

In the under 15s girls’ race Lauren Ferris had an excellent run to finish in eighth place in 16mins11secs.

India Hayes finished 18th in the under 13s girls’ race, 12mins 12secs, while Matt Wigelsworth ran well to finish 19th in the under 20s, 28mins 4secs, and under15s runner Jack Stubbings finished 24th, 14mins 37secs.

The under15s girls' team was rounded off by Melissa Boyer in 41st, 17mins 1secs, Isabelle Trevithick in 85th, 18mins 8secs, and Amy Gibbons in 103rd, 18mins 39secs, to place them eighth with a combined total of 237 points.

Under 15s boys' Sam Rostron came 60th with his time of 15mins 15secs and Luke Gamble finished in 81st place in 15mins36secs.
