MORE than a dozen Warrington Athletics Club member were part of a Cheshire team that won the Dave Sunderland Trophy at Bridgnorth on Saturday, in memory of the coach who died earlier this year.

The Cheshire team for the Schools Inter County Cross Country meeting showcased the many talented youngsters from Warrington, with the stand-out performer being Sam Evans.

He took first place in the junior boys' race, finishing in 15mins 11secs, while fellow Warrington athlete Jordan Jones crossed the line 32nd in 16mins 43secs.

The inter girls' race also showed off the club’s rising stars with Katie Lowery coming second in 16mins 37secs, followed home by Lauren Ferris in third in 16mins 52secs.

In the inter boys' race, Jack Stubbings helped his team with a strong top-10 finish in a time of 19mins 56secs.

There was also success elsewhere for Warrington Athletics Club, with Nick Jones making his international debut in the British and Irish Masters Cross Country Championships at Wollaton Park in Nottingham on Saturday.

He was chosen as a reserve for the over 40s team and ran in the open race, finishing second in 26mins14secs, which was faster than two of the team who ran the main race over the same course.
