IT WAS a successful weekend for Lymm Ladies, with victories in both league and cup.

They were 4-0 winners against Timperley’s second string on Saturday.

Midfielder Alex Pepper was unlucky not to score with a drag flick effort, while Megan Wilkin had a shot well-saved.

At the other end Helen Hunt, Sarah Cooper, Alex Appleton-Mitchell and Sarah Gardner stood firm in defence.

The deadlock was broken before half time when Suz Williams fed Nat Riley, who fired home.

After the interval a slick move involving Wilkin and Riley teed up Pepper to score before Lisa Hartley-Woodrow beat three defenders to add a third.

The fourth came from a short corner, Williams guiding the ball past the stranded keeper to help Lymm go five points clear at the North League summit.

They saw off Bowdon High Town 4-1 in the Cheshire Cup the following day.

Goalkeeper Amy Heywood and Lymm’s redoubtable defence kept the visitors out early on.

Captain Hartley-Woodrow opened the scoring, quickly following up with another goal.

Lymm sealed their progress to the next round in the second half thanks to Wilkin and Riley.

Warrington’s teams enjoyed a goal-fest at the weekend, winning four out of five games.

The men’s first team beat Blackpool seconds 7-2 with Ben Vickers and Mike Jones netting twice and Tom Yates, Roger Grey and Matthew Pettit sharing the other goals.

The firsts also won a Lancashire Cup tie against Springfield with Dave Yates opening the scoring before Steve Worrall, Mike Jones and Roger Grey made the game safe.

Debutant Chris Lyon’s goal scored for the men’s second team and Gavin Brown added a hat-trick as they defeated Runcorn 4-1.

The women’s seconds beat Oxton 5-1 with goals from Becky Miller, Emma Peters, two, and Liz Holmes.

The women’s firsts lost 3-1 at Oswestry despite a bullet of a goal from Steph Rawlins.
