SHAUN Reid is warning League Two outfit Exeter City they will not enjoy their visit to the north when they face his Warrington Town side next weekend.

A single Lewis Field goal was enough to see off North Ferriby United on Saturday and bag the Yellows a spot in the FA Cup first round.

It was the second Conference North side Town have beaten in the competition and earned them a home tie against the Grecians, who face a 460-mile round trip.

The side sitting 10th in League Two famously lost 3-2 to Curzon Ashton at this stage in 2008 and former Rochdale midfielder Reid, who faced Exeter in the FA Cup during his playing days, issued a timely reminder.

“I’ve no doubt we’ll give them a real go,” he said. “They won’t want to come up here and they’ll have looked at our last two results.

“When they come to our pitch it won’t be a carpet, it will be a leveller. I’ve played at Exeter’s St James Park and it’s always a beautiful playing surface.

“They won’t like coming up north and facing another northern team. We want to keep improving and bettering ourselves and this is a test for the players.”

Marauding right-back Field scored the game’s only goal after the visitors were reduced to 10 men in the second half.

North Ferriby skipper Matt Wilson was shown red for an off the ball incident with Town’s Steve Foster after the ball had gone out of play for a corner.

Then, on 65 minutes, Field gathered the ball in his own half, played it into Scott Metcalfe and carried on his run to receive the return pass.

The defender flicked the ball past the onrushing keeper and ran around him to tap into an empty net.

It delighted boss Reid, who now believes his side are starting to hit their potential after missing out on promotion last season.

“After the play-offs last year and finishing the highest the club has done in their history, it was always going to be a difficult start to the season,” he explained.

“But what they have done following a difficult start is shown me what they have got. I felt we were the better side on Saturday.

“The game against Colwyn Bay was tough and I made a few changes for the FA Trophy, but against North Ferriby I was confident.

“Toby Macormac, the chairman, and the people that are so loyal to this club deserve this, so it’s them I’m most pleased for.”
