A GOLFING trio, including two men from Warrington, are set to represent England in a prestigious European event.

Daniel Creaney, aged 23, from Cinnamon Brow, and Sean Towndrow, aged 23, from Culcheth, joined England international Sean Blinkhorn, aged 21, in the Southport and Ainsdale team that emerged as winners of the English Champion Club Tournament at Trentham.

The team added a collective 217 to their first-round 210 for 427, five under par, and were never really threatened, finishing 10 shots ahead of runners-up Hindhead from Surrey.

Towndrow confirmed his pedigree with a second successive 70 containing four birdies while Creaney had three birdies in his 73 and Blinkhorn produced an adventurous 74.

The win sees the team progress the European Champion Club Tournament in Bulgaria which tees off today, Thursday, and finishes on Saturday. Creaney, who was a member of Birchwood Golf Club and still holds the course record at his first club Poulton Park, is looking forward to the challenge and says the team believe they can win.

“We didn’t really expect to win the English Championships and that showed we can do it so I’d say we are quietly confident," he said.

“It’s been amazing for me, playing with the other two - one is an England international and one plays for Lancashire. And now, on the back of our success, I’ve been selected for the winter coaching with Lancashire and I can hopefully get into the team in 2015.”
