Lymm Ladies 3 Alderley Edge 1

THE away team brought a young and energetic side to Lymm and as last year's league champions offered strong oppositio.

It was North West Hockey Division Two newcomers Lymm with the first breakthrough though, scoring against the run of play after a fast break, Meg Wilkin with the finish.

Alderley Edge hit back almost immediately but it was Lymm who took control of the game, first with a second goal rolled inside the post from Wilkin, and Wilkin again from a set piece to provide a two-goal cushion.

Lymm currently sit top of the division.

Lymm Ladies 2s 6 Chester 1

The Cheshire League Division Two clash saw Lymm come out strong and convert two short corners from well-worked set pieces into goals – both for Aoife Davenport – putting her on the score sheet for the first time for the second team.

By half time Lymm were 4-0 up with a third short corner conversion following a strong strike from captain Katy Arber with the help of a deflection from one of the Chester defenders.

The fourth goal came from a strong team attack up the pitch with Helen Senior gaining the last touch.

Despite Lymm’s dominance, they still felt they were not playing to their full potential and aimed for more goals in the second half.

However the hot day and the slow, sandy pitch took their energy and they were only able to score two more goals despite gaining a large number of short corners.

The fifth goal was in fact a converted short corner, once again from a well worked set piece with Ellie Anderson getting the last defining touch and seeing the ball home for a goal.

The final goal for Lymm came from Nadine Roe driven in by Sally Bircham. The home side managed to sneak in a late goal moments before the final whistle despite a spectacular dive from Grace Morris on her debut for the seconds.

Captain Arber said: “We were pleased with the overall performance, although we could have capitalised on more of our hard won short corners and increased our goal difference further.

“There are a lot of positives to take from the team performance, but it has highlighted some aspects of our game which we will continue to work on during training.”

Lymm 9 Crewe 1

Never at their fluent best, Lymm still managed to dominate against Crewe's first team with a display full of hardwork and determination in the Cheshire Cup.

Although Lymm went ahead early only for Crewe to hit back, again, the team consolidated and were rewarded with a succession of clinical strikes.

The goals came from Meg Wilkin, three, Nat Riley, three, Alison Fearne, two, and Lisa Hartley-Woodrow.
