FORMER Royal Marine and Wigan Warriors strength and conditioning coach Mike Turner is set to join Warrington Wolves.

Turner, who served in the Marines for eight years before signing with Wigan, will join the Wolves for the next two seasons.

He progressed alongside Shaun Wane from the Wigan academy setup to head the first team’s strength and conditioning programme for the past three years.

He was also head of physical performance for Wales Rugby League, working with the likes of Wolves’ Rhys and Ben Evans and performance staff Lee Briers and Ben Stirling.

Turner said: “I’m looking forward to the challenge and to working with high-class players.

“From the outset Warrington seem to have a good culture and I’m looking to continue that.”

“They have been a top club for the past five years and I’m grateful to Tony (Smith) for giving me this opportunity.

“I’ll be coming in from a winning culture, so have that understanding of what it takes.

“It’s been a learning curve for me as I’ve learned under three different coaches and some at international level with the RLWC2013, plus my military background.”

Tony Smith added: “He will look to continue the great strides the conditioning department has made over the past few years, while also adding a new perspective to the preparation and recovery.”
