MICKY Higham cannot wait to start working with Daryl Clark, a hooker he labels ‘one of the stand-out players in Super League’.

Castleford’s 21-year-old hooker will join Wolves for the 2015 season and, with Michael Monaghan retiring, Higham is backing the youngster to be a hit.

“It’s a terrific signing. You only have to look at his performances this year,” said the 33-year-old.

“He’s been one of the stand-out players in Super League every week.

“His stats are good, he’s a great player and with Michael moving on there’s that option for rotating hookers.

“He’ll come in here to give us a spark and add another dimension. He’ll see those little half gaps and get through them. I can see them, I just can’t get through them anymore!”

Higham is keen to play a role in Clark’s development at Wolves, but also believes he can learn from the Challenge Cup finalist.

“Getting older you have to adjust your game a little bit,” he added. “There are a few things he could still work on but a few things I could pick up from him as well.

“I can’t wait to start working with him. It should be exciting and will hopefully help give us that step up to improve again.

“I’ve spoken to him and he’s a pretty level-headed kid, really down to earth. I’ll grab him and ask if there’s anything he wants to look at and I’ll be asking him for some help as well.

“I’ll make it quite clear anything he wants to work on I can do with him, like I have with Brad Dwyer before.

“He’ll really develop us as a team and help us go forward. I can’t wait for him to get cracking with us.”

And Higham admits there is a certain excitement around the camp when new signings for the season ahead are announced.

“You see new players coming in and you get a bit of a buzz and can’t wait to get going again,” he explained.

“I’ve not watched much NRL this year but by all reports Ashton Sims is aggressive, he’s tough and he’ll add some grunt upfront.

“Daryl and myself can work off the back of Chris Hill, Ashton Sims and the other boys and hopefully we can improve again.

“That’s two exciting signings, so it’s a transition period but it’s still a squad capable of doing good things.”
