THE business end of the season tends to bring the best out of Ben Westwood, but Wolves’ joint-skipper is only focused on seeing his side hit their potential.

Wolves’ run-in pits them against three play-off rivals in Huddersfield Giants, St Helens and Wigan Warriors.

Westwood has seen his season interrupted by suspension and injury, but is determined to help keep Wolves’ Grand Final ambitions alive.

“I can be better,” said the 33-year-old. “I’ve missed a few games and probably not played how I would like to, but there’s still time yet.

“These are the games I seem to enjoy more and hopefully this will bring the best out of me. I’m looking forward to it and I’m feeling quite fresh.

“But it’s a team game and we seem to be going well and doing things right in training and we’re getting results on the pitch.

“As long as we get that then my performances and my preference as to how I play don’t really come into it.”

The England international is also confident that a tough close to the Super League season can help prepare Warrington for what they will face in the play-offs.

“We’ve got a really tough few games coming up going into the play-offs and that will stand us in good stead,” he said.

“There’s no better preparation, as we’re going to be playing these teams again in the play-offs. We’re looking forward to the challenge and we’ve got what it takes to get through it.”

Feeling refreshed after a weekend off, Westwood insists Wolves are ready to challenge for the elusive Grand Final crown.

“It’s always good to have a bit of a break,” explained the former Wakefield man. “As much as the cup exit came as a disappointment – and it was hard to watch the final over the weekend – we’ve got another trophy to go for this year.

“It’s about performing well. Results are important, but as long as you do a good job the results normally go in your favour anyway.

“We’ll be looking to put in some really good performances ahead of these play-offs and have a good crack at the one title we’ve got left to claim.”
