FORMER Lymm High School student Niki Birrell was unable to add a sixth consecutive world title after being narrowly beaten at the IFDS Disabled World Championships in Canada on Sunday.

Birrell and partner Alexandra Rickham were looking to make it six on the spin, but despite finishing the two-person SKUD class on the same points as the Australian team missed out on countback.

However, Birrell and Rickham’s result, along with other British sailors at the regatta, was enough to secure them qualification for the 2016 Paralympic Games in Rio.
