GLAZEBURY took a massive step to securing their top flight status as they delivered a superb win over Old Parkonians at The Lane in Division One of the Cheshire Cricket Alliance.

After winning at The Groves a week earlier, Glazebury have now beaten both sides next to them in the table to haul themselves out of the bottom three with just four games remaining.

Glazebury took the initiative and batted first, posting 181 before being dismissed in the last of their 45 overs.

Experienced pair Wayne Hargreaves, 49, and Chris Lord, 39, were the main contributors while captain Jack Warhurst also chipped in with 21.

The Wirral side set about the chase by laying a platform at 61 for 2, but the visitors suffered a huge collapse and were all out for 108 as Jon Gibbons' excellent return of 4 for 29 was backed by two wickets each for Sam Stanier and Dave Acton.

The 25 points now gives Glazebury a good points’ cushion at the bottom end of the table for the season's finale.

Glazebury seconds suffered defeat at Maritime in Division Four despite dismissing the hosts for 155 with a five-wicket haul from Gerard Southworth.

Southworth finished with top figures of 5 for 33, with Bruce Jardine and Dave Nicholson also getting two wickets each.

However, the total proved sufficient for the hosts to defend as the Hurst Lane side were all out for 125.
