BURTONWOOD racing driver Phil Cooper won the top class at the National Autograss Championships.

Cooper, 29, has previously won the championships in class seven, eight, and nine, but has now gone one further to become the first driver to win the national competition in all of the top four classes.

The Burtonwood driver won the event in his 2.3 litre engine open wheel single seater, after the regional qualifiers saw him put into national heats with 39 of the country’s best competitors.

“We had a lot of problems throughout the year,” Cooper said.

“We had two gearbox failures, but overall the cars been good and it was amazing to be the first to win in the four different classes.”

Cooper is now gearing up to compete in his second circuit meeting at Silverstone on Saturday, August 23.
