THREE Warrington-based drivers were out racing and flying the flag for the town at Oulton Park’s Championship Race Day.

Mike Nash was racing his 1600cc Peugeot 106 Rally in the Sports/Saloon Championship and is the current class leader in his championship despite missing races earlier in the season.

His good form continued in the day’s race as he led his class to the finish line with a commanding 1min 27secs lead over the next car, and got the class fastest speed of 80.22mph.

Richard Roundell raced his 2.5litre Vauxhall Vectra in the Sports/Saloon Championship and finished third in his class just behind a slightly slower but more agile Citroen Xsara, which had proved difficult to overtake.

Dale Spruce from Penketh was racing a 2litre Van Dieman RF82 in the Classic Formula Ford 2000 Championship.

A misfire during qualifying meant he had to start both races from the back of the grid, but was able to claw his way up to sixth by the end of the first race and get fastest lap for his class.

For the second race, he raced up to seventh place by the finishing flag and again claimed the class fastest lap.
