BOSS Shaun Reid is challenging his Warrington Town side to continue their pre-season form in Saturday’s season opener.

The Yellows begin their Evo-Stik First Division North campaign at Darlington 1883, before hosting Salford City on Tuesday.

Having defeated Conference North outfit Colwyn Bay 5-0 last week and held Leicester City under 21s to a 3-3 draw on Tuesday, Reid is confident of a strong start to the season.

“We are a better team than last year,” he said. “It’s alright showing that in pre season but now we need to show it in the big games.

“Pre season went fabulously. Against Colwyn Bay the lads were magnificent, they showed they have got plenty of energy, goals and are strong.

“We have built a squad that’s capable of competing at this level. I feel as though we have improved in the right areas and strengthened well.”

Reid singled out new signing Karl Wills for praise, but admits he is always looking for the right players to improve his side.

“My keeper is top class,” Reid said of the former Crewe Alexandra stopper. “He has been outstanding and can make a name for himself. He has all the attributes to be a top keeper.

“I’m quietly confident, we’ll still look to improve but I’m happy with my 18-man squad and looking forward to pitting our team against this league.

“The first two are brilliant games, Darlington and then up-and-coming Salford City. It couldn’t be tougher, but they’ll be saying the same thing.

“There’s a lot of talk about Darlington, Salford, Scarborough and we’re getting mentioned alongside them. We have come a long way in a short time and long may it continue.

“Warrington Town want to build a Football League club. Darlington and Scarborough are aiming to get there and there’s no reason Warrington can’t.”
