GRAPPENHALL continued their recent run of poor form in losing to Bramhall by 24 runs in Cheshire County ECB Premier Division on Saturday.

Grappenhall won the toss and put their opponents in to bat. They set off with a first wicket stand of 41 before going on to 105 for 2.

Sam Guest took 2 for 57 off 19 overs, and Sam Baxter took 2 for 36 off 11 overs but Bramhall reached 213 for 6 as a result of some poor fielding.

Grappenhall`s reply began positively but they then lost both openers with the score on 35 for 2, before a further collapse saw the side faltering on 54 for 4.

A recovery came in the form of a partnership of 42 between Ben Bhoda and Richard Green, with Green looking well set until he fell for 25.

Gaz Burns then joined Bhoda, who playing sensibly was constructing a good innings.

The pair put on 71 for the sixth wicket when Ben was out for 51, claiming his maiden first team half century, and Burns followed almost immediately for a positive 40.

At 168 for 7 and the run rate climbing it was up to the tail to try and get over the line, but while Jack Critchley showed resolute defence he had little support, and the innings closed at 189 all out in the 54th over.

Grappenhall were disappointed with the result and took just four points from the game.

The side’s next match is at home against struggling Bowdon and they will be looking for a better all round performance to get back to winning ways and stop the slide of recent weeks.
