Poynton 1 Rylands 1

RYLANDS began the Cheshire Premier League season with a frustrating draw at newly promoted Poynton on Saturday.

The away side were pegged back in the second half after Dean Jennings fired them into the lead on 43 minutes when Jimmy Sinker’s cross was cushioned into his path by Kris Bell.

Rylands were left feeling disappointed to have not got the win but manager Dave Parr insists his new-look side will grow stronger as the season goes on.

“This is a new group from last season playing a different formation,” said Parr. “Although it will take time to gel, we are confident that we can improve in a very competitive league.

“Although we are disappointed at the level of our overall performance following a very good pre-season, this was always a tricky opening day fixture at the home of a newly promoted club.

“I thought we controlled the game well during the first half and scored a really well worked goal, but failed to kick on in the second half and Poynton deserved to take a point in the end.”
