Malpas 3

GRAPPENHALL Sports manager Darren Davies has warned his players they will have to perform better this season despite beating Malpas 4-3 in their Cheshire League Division One opener on Saturday.

Sports came away from the seven-goal thriller with three points courtesy of a hat-trick from Jordan Rigby and one goal from Dave France.

"I'm delighted to get the three points on day one of the season especially with such a tough opener,” said Davies.

“We will play better than this, we will need to play better than this but it's a great result against a good team.

“The first half we were not good enough and the second half started much the same but we showed a terrific spirit and desire and finished the game the stronger team.”

Grappenhall were on the back foot for the first half and were trailing for most of the game before Rigby came to the rescue.

“Jordan Rigby's hat-trick was absolute quality,” added Davies.

“He's been great all pre-season and you could see the confidence he has to his game right now.”
