FOUR Warrington Wolves players have made the Wales Rugby League under 16s squad for the forthcoming test matches.

Wales under 16s will face England on Saturday 30th August at Mountain Ash RFC with the under 18s taking on Scotland and England on autumn dates to be confirmed.

Wales under 18s are primarily selected from the successful South Wales Scorpions side who are doing well in the Championship South competition and provided most of the players for Wales' squad in the recent Commonwealth Championships Nines.

Morgan Knowles from St Helens and Matthew Owen from London Broncos are the two Super League academy players who break the trend.

The under 16s side are selected from slightly more of a widespread field but the South Wales Regional Academy provides most of the talent.

There are four players from Warrington Wolves and one each from Penallta Storm, Torfaen Tigers, Bristol Sonics and Cumbrian side Askam Sandrats.

Bridgewater High School student Reece Brunt, a long with Nathan Ainsworth, George Shaw and Geraint Lawrence are Wolves' representatives in th under 16s.

Under 18s coach Paul Emanuelli said: "It has been an extremely difficult process to get the Wales under 18s squad down to a final 20, but now I have I'm really excited about the talent I've got going into the two internationals.

"I've got high expectations for both games and there's no reason we can't get two wins. We've had some really positive training sessions so far but the final two months of training can be focused around the final squad and we can really start to get our structures in place."

Under 16s coach Lee Cullen said: “We’ve had a large training squad and it’s been a difficult job to reduce the numbers to 20.

"England will be a tough challenge, they always are, but I know that our boys will go out there and give their all for Wales.”

Head of youth performance Jon Ellis said: “Looking at the sides, we have a lot of talented kids at both age groups.

"The best thing about these two sides is their coach-ability, they soak things up and adapt well to changes.

"Wales this year are ready for a tough test at both age groups and will show everyone that we can play rugby league, and play it well. I can't wait.”
