GLAZEBURY were beaten at Saughall in Division One of the Cheshire Cricket Alliance on Saturday when they fell short of the target by just two runs in a low-scoring game.

Saughall were bowled out for just 108 after Glazebury’s bowling attack caused a huge collapse in the batting order.

The home side were coasting at 71 without loss before 10 wickets fell for just 37 runs courtesy of a Glazebury bowling partnership.

Dave Acton produced a dazzling spell to take 6 for 26, while Sam Stanier finished with figures of 4 for 41.

Glazebury struggled to chase down the low target finding themselves 24 for 5 and with a lot of work to do to reach the 108.

The visitors got back into the game with a responsible knock of 51 from Callum Morgan, but the final two wickets fell late on to limit the Glazebury to 106 all out.

Glazebury seconds were beaten by four wickets against Westminster Park in their Division Four clash on Saturday.

Glazebury posted 142 all out with Simon Green, 44, providing the side’s top score and Dave Nicholson, 17, and Paul Warhust, 15, giving support.

Captain Chris Ayre put himself in to bowl after tea and dismissed both openers, but Park made steady progress and reached 143 for 6 to seal a comfortable victory.
