AISHA Thornton has a second swim in the Commonwealth Games on Monday morning but it will not be in the final of the 800m freestyle.

The 22-year-old Loughborough University student from Warrington , a member of Warriors of Warrington Swimming Club, faces a ranking swim-off with 19-year-old New Zealander Emma Robinson in the pool at Tolcross Swimming Centre at 10.33am.

They finished joint fourth in heat two on Sunday, clocking 8mins 41.02secs, but after heat three they missed out on the top eight spots for the final on Monday night.

Their swim-off, the opening pool session of the day, will decide who is ranked 10th and 11th this tournament.

Fastest qualifier for the final was Wales’ Jazz Carlin in a Games record 8mins 22.69secs, with former Great Sankey High School pupil Thornton just under four seconds off the qualification pace at the end of the 16 lengths.
