Widnes Vikings u19 4 Warrington Wolves u19 54

WARRINGTON Wolves produced another trademark performance to outclass Widnes Vikings in the Under 19s Academy at the Select Security Stadium to maintain their remarkable run of form.

Wolves were in control for the whole game and produced some sensational attacking play to keep Vikings on the back foot for long periods and this allowed them to run in 10 tries to make it 13 successive victories.

The scoring was opened in the13th minute when fine work close to the line from Wolves in-form centre Jake Eccleston saw him hold the ball up in the tackle and he managed to offload to full back Jack Johnson, who burrowed over on the right. Stand off Declan Paton converted.

Five minutes later Patton ran the ball on the last tackle and his bullet pass found centre Harvey Livett who then put winger Declan Kay over wide out on the left.

Just before the half hour a clever grubber kick into the Widnes in-goal area by Patton was fumbled by Vikings and loose forward Ryan Maneely pounced to score at the side of the posts. Patton added the conversion.

Four minutes before the break Maneely got the ball from the base of the scrum on his own 40 metre line and he found Livett, who raced 60 metres brushing off four defenders on a brilliant run to score in the left corner and make the half time score 20-0 to Wolves.

An error by Vikings straight from the kick off at the start of the second half gave Wolves a scrum on the 10-metre line and a lovely ball from Livett put Kay over in the left corner. Patton laned a superb touchline conversion via the post.

Six minutes later good work from second rower Sam Wilde saw him make good progress towards Vikings’ line and a quick play-the-ball saw substitute Robert Holroyd bulldoze his way over a couple of Widnes defenders and score on the left. Patton added the conversion.

Wolves scrum half Louis Jouffret collected the ball from the restart and fed Johnson, who raced 90 metres unopposed to score between the posts.

Patton converted and just after the hour the lead was increased further when a short ball from Patton found substitute Morgan Nicholas at speed and he powered over at the left of the posts and Patton added on the extras.

Vikings were rewarded for their efforts almost immediately when they regained the ball from the restart and slick passing had the Wolves defence stretched and this allowed centre Matt Barrow to score on the right.

Ten minutes later Vikings dropped the ball on the halfway line and Livett hacked the ball on before collecting it and racing over in the left corner. Patton converted from out wide to bring up the half century.

In the final minute the ball was swept along the line to Eccleston who drew his opposite number towards him before putting winger Matt Boyers over in the right corner for a debut try to complete an impressive win for the rampant Wolves.
