TABLE-topping Warrington Wolves under 19s made it 10 successive wins in the Academy League with a comprehensive defeat of Bradford Bulls in the Super League curtain-raiser on Sunday.
The first try came in the second minute when great hands by Wolves saw the ball move the width of the field and centre Jake Eccleston sent winger Ben Stansfield over in the right corner. Stand off Declan Patton converted.
Seven minutes later good work by Patton saw him send full back Jack Johnson clear and he found centre Toby King, whose sharp pass put winger Declan Kay in the clear to score wide on the left.
Bulls hit back on 15 minutes when a superb 60-metre break by second row Alex Melling split Wolves' defence and a quick play-the-ball saw them have an overlap that full back Kieran Warpole made the most of to score at the side of the posts.
Stand off Jordan Gale converted but tseven minutes later good hands along the line by Wolves saw the ball reach King and he brushed off three defenders to score wide out on the left.
Almost immediately a strong drive from substitute Robert Holroyd paved the way for King to make a 40-metre break down the left and brush off his opposite number with ease before finding Johnson to race over at the side of the posts.
Patton added the conversion before his great ball found substitute Harvey Livett, who broke clear before allowing King to race over at the side of the posts. Patton converted to make the score 26-6.
Straight from the restart the ball was sent out wide to the impressive King who raced 60 metres before kicking ahead and two quick play-the-balls saw the Bulls defence stretched.
That allowed Kay to squeeze over in the left corner. Patton goaled superbly from the touchline and Wolves scored their fifth try in 11 minutes without the Bulls touching the ball as a couple of great carries got them to the halfway line.
A great ball from Patton sent King away and he found Livett in support to score at the side of the posts. Patton converted to make the half time score 38-6 to the rampant Wolves.
Six minutes into the second half Wolves second row Sam Wilde was held just short but from the play-the-ball Patton put up a high kick to the corner and King collected to go over for his hat-trick.
Patton converted but six minutes later Bulls hit back when a lovely short ball from Mellor found centre Ross Oakes at speed to race over at the side of the posts. Warpole added the conversion.
Bradford were over once again shortly afterwards when a high kick from scrum half Nathan Conroy was misjudged by Wolves' defence and centre Brad Adams picked up the loose ball and put winger James Pickering over in the right corner. Warpole converted.
Ten minutes later they were in again when pressure on the Wolves line was rewarded as Conroy put second row James Thornton over from close range. Warpole added the conversion to make the score 44-24 in the Wolves favour.
As the game headed into the final 10 minutes Wolves regained their composure and Stansfield intercepted a Bulls pass to race 20 metres and score on the right.
Patton brought up the half century with the conversion and straight from the restart substitute Daniel Hirst found Patton, who shot through a gap before finding King on his outside to score his fourth try of the game. Patton added on the extras once again.
Three minutes from time a grubber kick by Patton was collected by Livett and he scored his second try on the left. Patton converted to complete a very impressive 62-24 victory for the Wolves.
