A WARRINGTON teenager emulated his brother’s success by claiming his first race win in a Formula Ford single-seater in the Avon Tyres Formula Ford 1600 Northern Championship at Oulton Park.

Seventeen-year-old Tom McArthur was beaten to the title last year by older brother David, but took his chance in the reigning champion’s absence to claim a race win.

Starting from pole position, he lost one place on the first lap but regained it by lap three and steadily built up his lead from there to the chequered flag.

Brother David was impressed with the result and admitted Tom will be a future challenger for his title.

For the second, non-Championship, race and starting near the back in 27th place, McArthur carved his way towards the front with speed and skill to finish in 10th place.

Mike Fry from Lymm was racing in his two-litre Lola T86 in the BigProfile SRCC Sports 2000 Championship.

Fry had nearly won the Pinto Class Championship last year, only losing out at the very last race of the season and returned with high hopes again.

The first of his two races did not bring what he hoped for, starting from 30th place an early excursion onto the grass slowed him but did not lose him any places.

However, from then on things only got better as he overtook 17 other cars to finish in 13th overall, fifth in his class.

In the second race he started from 22nd but a spin on lap three took him back to 24th place before he started to climb up the order and finished 16th overall.
