WARRINGTON Wolves could be set to lose Ben Evans after the forward suffered an ankle injury in the win over Salford Red Devils.

Evans had to be helped from the field in the second half and Tony Smith fears the forward could have suffered a potentially serious injury.

“It doesn’t look good,” explained the boss. “It’s an ankle but not a break, which sometimes that can be better if it is – put them in a cast and treat them.

“We’ll get him scanned, but it’s not looking pretty for him or us at the moment.”

Smith was also sweating on the fitness of Joel Monaghan after he clashed heads and seemingly dislocated his jaw while diving over for his 19th try of the season.

“We had a bit of scare with Joel,” added Smith. “I think it came out and went back in, first fear was that he broke it.

“He felt it might have been gone but it had gone back into place by the time we got him back into the changing rooms, so a big sigh of relief on that one.”

But Smith is confident he will soon be able to welcome back Anthony England and Paul Wood.

“Hopefully England and Paul Wood in the next couple of weeks,” he explained. “So getting a couple of troops back.”
