Oldham St Annes 32 Rylands Sharks 28
RYLANDS were narrowly beaten in a close fought game at Oldham in the North West Men’s league Division Two on Saturday.
Oldham opened the scoring after just two minutes before Rylands hit straight back with a 30 metre try from Dave Walker.
A Sharks try from Luke Walker and two from Oldham soon after saw the sides level when Oldham decided to kick a penalty and take a slender 14-12 lead.
Dave Walker crossed for his second in the 35th minute before Oldham grabbed two more tries shortly before half time to go in 24-18 at the break.
St Annes added a further eight points in the opening minutes of the second half before a try from Jack Cosgrove and a second of the game for Luke Walker clawed the Sharks back to within four points.
Despite a late push by the away side, Oldham held out for the win.
