THE Cheshire Schools Championships were held on Saturday at Macclesfield with 32 Warrington Athletics Club athletes taking part and collecting 10 gold, three silver and five bronze medals.

In the girls’ events gold medals came in the intermediate 800m from Carys McAulay in 2mins 15.5secs, Alysha Goddard in the senior 1500m steeplechase in 5mins 27.7secs, and Sarah McGrail in the intermediate 3000m in 10mins 24.3secs with Victoria Ramsbottom taking the silver medal in 10mins 52.5secs.

In the junior girls’ 800m Melissa Boyer took gold in 2mins 19.6secs while Lauren Ferris took gold in the 1500m in 4mins 51.7secs.

In the hammer throw Megan Kettle set a inaugural championship record with a throw of 23.78m.

In the intermediate 100m, Eleanor Baker won her heat in 13.1secs and then took the gold in the final with 13.3secs.

Other medals in the girls’ events came from Lara Spiteri in the junior 200m taking the bronze medal with 28.4secs while in the junior 75m hurdles Hannah Shaw took bronze with 12.9secs.

In the boys’ events Cameron Field took the gold medal in a tactical senior 1500m in 4mins 10.2secs, while in the intermediate 1500m Daniel Evans also got the gold medal in 4mins 10.4secs with Owen Lee taking the bronze medal in a new best time of 4mins 20.0secs.

The only other gold medallist in the boys’ events was Fisayo Williamson-Taylor who topped the field in 11.9secs.

Silver medals came in the senior and intermediate 800m with Chris Fance taking the senior second place in 2mins 3.8secs while Robert Dykes duplicated the time as he took the intermediate silver.
