LEE Briers praised the mental toughness of his Warrington Wolves under 19s squad after they made it 12 wins from 13 on Friday.

Wolves had to dig deep to beat Hull KR for the second time in a week, but did so with tries from French scrum half Louis Jouffret, Toby King, Ben Stansfield and Jack Johnson.

Briers said: “The mental toughness that the whole squad is showing is really great to see and is helping them out when things get tough on the field.

“The spirit and togetherness they have is superb and you can tell how much they enjoy playing for each other during games.

“They put in a tremendous amount of work during training to make sure they are in the best possible shape come matchday.”

Fellow head coach Danny Fullerton added: “The boys showed great resilience, grit and character which you need in tough physical games like that.

“The six youngsters in the team Ben Stansfield, Declan Kay, James Jones, Alex Whalley, Andy Philbin and Morgan Nicholas should all be very happy with their contributions, the way they are developing as people and players is very pleasing.

“Tom Walker was absolutely outstanding tonight and really did keep us on the front foot and fully deserved to be man-of-the-match.”

Wolves face Salford Red Devils at Crosfields ARLFC on Saturday, 12pm.
