Warrington Wolves' recent consistency pleases Rhys Evans
RHYS Evans is confident Wolves’ blend of youth and experience is starting to pay off.
The Wales international has been in fine form for Tony Smith’s side, contributing 11 tries in as many appearances this season.
And the winger puts his side’s recent upturn in form down to Warrington’s new-look side spending more time together on the pitch.
“It’s taken us a while, but hopefully we can be consistent like we have the last month and keep it going,” he said.
“It’s been combinations with people getting used to playing together, it’s quite a new team this year, quite a lot of the senior blokes from last year left.
“So it’s about learning each other’s styles and learning how to play with certain people, that takes time.
“You only get it in games, you can train as much as you like but it only clicks when you’re in games.
“A lot of lads my age I played with in the past so to come through at the same time and be playing first team is really good for us.
“The senior players have been here for a while and they’re part of that as well, so it’s a good blend.”
Wolves face Hull KR on Friday for the third time this season and the 21-year-old is hoping to set right the Super League defeat at The Halliwell Jones Stadium in April.
“We’ve played them twice so we know what they can do and they know what we can do, it’s about putting in a performance,” added Evans.
“In the cup it was do or die, but we didn’t play particularly well the week after and they did, so it’s just about setting it right and hopefully we can come away with the two points.”
Earlier this week Wolves learned they will face Leeds Rhinos in the Challenge Cup semi-final but, having knocked the Robins out at the first hurdle, Evans remains focussed on the Super League for now.
“When you get to this stage you know you’re going to be playing against good teams so whoever you get is going to be a tough draw,” he said.
“We look forward to that when it comes, but we’re just looking at Super League for the moment."
