INJURY NEWS: Tony Smith on Warrington Wolves duo Michael Monaghan and Richie Myler
WARRINGTON Wolves have learned the extent of injuries to Michael Monaghan and Richie Myler.
Monaghan underwent a scan on Monday and will be out for more than a month, while Myler will have treatment on his ankle this evening after the results of an x-ray two days ago.
Anthony England has been named in the 19-man squad for the trip to Hull KR on Friday, but boss Tony Smith said the forward could be a doubt with a shoulder injury.
“Michael Monaghan has got a tear in his calf,” said Wolves’ head of coaching and rugby. “It’s probably not as bad as first thought, if we can get him back in four or five weeks that’d be good.
“The first fear was about six to eight weeks, we’re thinking if everything goes well we may get him back within four or five but that’s no guarantee until the healing process starts.
“We’ll monitor him (England) as the week progresses but it shouldn’t be too bad.
“Myler’s had an x-ray and we found a little bit around the ankle, so he may have a bit of floating bone in the joint, he’s getting that cleaned up this evening.
“I think he’ll be out for a few weeks, hopefully only a few weeks as long as they don’t find anything sinister once they go in.
“It’s on the same ankle that he’s had problems with before, it’s a completely different injury and completely unrelated to what he’s had prior to this one.
“We’ve got a few again at the moment, a few mid to long-term in terms of we’re going to get everyone back that’s injured but we’re down a little bit on the team front.”
Youngster Joe Philbin, aged 19, who scored four tries in Wolves under 19s’ win against Hull KR last week, comes into the squad.
Fellow Academy player 19-year-old George King is also named.
Wolves squad: Roy Asotasi, Ryan Atkins Chris Bridge, Ben Currie, Brad Dwyer, Anthony England, Ben Evans, Rhys Evans, Simon Grix, Ben Harrison, Micky Higham, Chris Hill, George King, Joel Monaghan, Gene Ormsby, Joe Philbin, Stefan Ratchford, Glenn Riley, Matthew Russell.
