Simon Grix could make a timely return to Wolves' squad with James Laithwaite out
SIMON Grix could make a timely return on Sunday after Wolves learned forward James Laithwaite will face a six-week lay off with a broken foot.
Grix has returned to full training after a rehabilitation period on his dislocated shoulder.
“James Laithwaite is the major one,” said boss Tony Smith. “He’s cracked a bone in his foot so we think about a six-week injury list now for him so that’s a blow for James and for us.
“We’ll hopefully have Simon Grix back with us this week and if that’s the case it’ll be timely after losing James.
“We’ve held him back from a few things but he’s been doing his rehab and has come through with flying colours so far. If he gets the green light from the medical staff he’s likely to play a part.”
Wolves’ forward options could be boosted further by Paul Wood’s recovery from an operation on a torn bicep.
“He's within about four weeks,” added Smith. “He’s getting to the back end of his bicep operation and coming along well, he’s looking good for a return soon.”
However, Smith has suggested he will not be calling on any Academy players at this point in the season.
“There’s no intention of blooding another young player just yet,” he explained. “That could happen before the end of the season, but it’s not likely that we are looking to do that this weekend.”
