Warrington lost two wickets without a run before Hitchmough, 24, and Les Connolly, 24, repaired some of the damage, but well behind the run rate it was Gilbert and Tim Rothwell who batted out the draw.
Mans Naseem, 6 for 42, clawed Warrington fifths back into the game against Haslington thirds.
Tom Fagan-Hall, 2 for 42, Nathan Jeffery, 1 for 15 and Dave Lee, 1 for 41, then bowled the hosts out for 158.
Four for 7 down, James Lewis made a half century as Warrington reached 101 for 8 to draw.
