RYLANDS toppled the 106-game unbeaten Hunslet Warriors in the Rhinos Challenge to win the competition in Skegness.

After getting off to a winning start with a 16-4 victory over Leeds Irish, Sharks then had to face the long unbeaten Hunslet side.

Leon Hayes gave Rylands a deserved lead before a Warriors equaliser was followed by Nathon Groarke’s winner to settle the game 8-4.

The Sharks defence was the key for the third and fourth games of the tournament, holding out to beat Kippax Welfare 8-4 and then Waterhead 12-8.

The second day in Skegness saw the Warrington side hit a stumbling block when they were held to an 8-8 draw against a good Dewsbury Moor side before getting back to winning ways against Skirlaugh Bulls with a 16-8 victory.

Sharks went into the seventh and final game of the tournament needing a win to top the group and win the Rhinos Challenge.

Rylands stormed ahead with tries from Dylan Alcock and Nathon Groarke, before Leon Hayes sealed a 12-0 victory and the tournament win in the dying minutes of the game.
