WARRINGTON’S Cheshire County League Division Two fixture with Irby fell to the rain on Saturday after 16 overs.

Kyle Adams took the only wicket before the game was abandoned, with Irby on 60 for 1.

Warrington’s fifth team completed their fixture, albeit in reduced overs as they settled for a draw in the Third XI Division Two West.

On a wet wicket interrupted by rain, Winnington Park made 179 for 3 with Will Fleetwood, 2 for 35, and Billy Gilbert, 1 for 37, being the only wicket takers as the hosts closed their innings after 33 overs in a shortened match With only 33 overs to bat Warrington were off to a good start with Fleetwood, 82, and Gilbert, 25, putting on 48 for the first wicket.

This was followed by a second wicket partnership of 77 from Fleetwood and Dave Lee, 28, putting Warrington in contention only for Fleetwood to be run out 22 runs short and leave Warrington with a draw in fading light.

On Thursday, Warrington second team enjoyed a nine-wicket win over Irby in the T20 Second XI Knockout.

On winning the toss, Warrington gave Irby the first use of a wet wicket and the visitors could not escape the accurate bowling of the hosts.

Joe Quinn, 3 for 17, backed up by Isaac Webster, 1 for 11, Rishav Manta, 1 for 21, and Les Connolly, 1 for 35, had Irby back in the shed for 103.

Openers Charlie McElroy, 52no, and Dan Rudd, 44, put on a stand of 95 as Warrington coasted home to a nine-wicket win.
