Accrington Panthers 18 Woolston Rovers A 14

WOOLSTON Rovers A suffered a narrow defeat at Accrington Panthers in North West Men’s League Division Two on Saturday despite a sterling performance.

The home side went 6-0 up after 10 minutes before Mike Ward stormed through to close the gap to 6-4 at half time.

The second half was a tight affair with Dan Fearnley and Conor Gerrard’s tries for Rovers proving to be not quite enough for the win.

Rovers coach Chris Ball said: “The performance was a massive improvement on the past few weeks and hopefully we can build on this, and if we can then the results will start going in our favour.”

Rovers A: Josh Woods; Matt Robinson, Kurt Whiteley, Sam Wood, Jordan Millington; Dominic Ball, Jason Rutter; Phil Stevens, Josh Sudlow, Tom Fagan, Ian Ward, Dan Fearnley, Mike Ward. Subs: Martin Ball, Liam Sullivan, Conor Gerrard, Richard Shepherd, Shane Duffy.
