Woolston Rovers A 4 Oldham St Annes A 38

WOOLSTON Rovers A suffered defeat at the hands of Oldham St Annes A in the NWML Division Two at Monks Sports Club on Saturday.

Rovers started the game strongly and spent long periods in the St Annes half but they were unable to breach a tough defensive line in a tight first half and it was the visitors who were able to go into the half time break with a 10-0 lead.

The second half saw Oldham take firm control of the game and as Rovers began to tire they were able to take full advantage and score some fine tries whilst Rovers only had a solitary try from stand-off Will Chadwick to show for their efforts as St Annes ran out deserved 38-4 winners.

After the game Rovers A coach Chris Ball said, “I cannot fault the efforts of all 20 lads who went out there and gave their all.

"We had chances to get some points on the board in the first half but we were unable to take advantage of that and we paid the price for that in the second half.

"We will dust ourselves down and get ready for the trip to Accrington Panthers next Saturday and then the following Wednesday (May 14) we entertain Burtonwood Bridge in the Warrington Alliance Cup Preliminary Round, kick off 7pm at Monks Sports Club.”
