Warrington 20 Eccles 14

WARRINGTON’S under 19s scooped the Lancashire Cup on Sunday to make it a treble-winning season.

Having added to their league title with a Raging Bull Senior Colts Cup success last weekend, Warrington delivered trophy number three of a possible four on offer so far this season and will look to add to that haul in the Cock of the North Championship final next week.

Tries from Cameron Lewis, Max Caldwell and Peter Edwards aided by the boot of Ben Hockenhull proved enough for Warrington to overcome Eccles in the final.

However, Warrington looked out of sorts and disjointed in the first period and lacked the tempo and pacey fluidity that they normally put together.

There were a few changes to the line up from last week’s league cup final but they seemed nervous and lacked the normal pace and go-forward which has so far this season seen them wear teams down and create scoring chances.

Eccles were certainly up for the match and adopted a straightforward and physical game plan to disrupt Warrington’s normal flow.

The first half was well balanced in terms of points with Eccles turning round a point in front after Caldwell had burnt his opposite winger to go over and score Warrington’s first try.

Tension continued to mount in the second half as Eccles replied with a penalty and Warrington collected two yellow cards.

Lewis and Edwards relieved the pressure with two much-needed tries and Hockenhull kept the scoreboard ticking with a well-deserved penalty.

Eccles came back with a try of their own to make it 20-14 in Warrington’s favour in the last 10 minutes which with stoppages was increased to 15 minutes.

But the 14 Warrington players on the pitch held firm and delivered another close fought and deserved victory.

Warrington will travel to Sandbach at the weekend looking to secure a fourth trophy when they take on Yorkshire champions Old Brodleians in a bid to win the Cock of the North Championship.
