Billinge 1 Eagle Sports 1

EAGLE Sports dropped two vital points in their chase for the Cheshire Football League Division One title.

The visitors started brightly and took an early lead when Liam Walker whipped in a corner to the near post which was headed home by Owen Ellis.

Eagle continued to be on top in the game, with the home side battling spiritedly to thwart any attacks coming from the Thornton Road side.

Lee Boardman went close with a half volley which flew over the home crossbar on around the half hour mark.

The half was played out evenly and Eagle went 1-0 up at the break.

The second half saw more spirited play from the hosts as they came more into the game. With this, Eagle’s performance levels began to drop, with a lack of cutting edge being shown in attack following chances being created but not converted.

The home side drew level with around 20 minutes to play after goalkeeper Simon Perry was adjudged to have brought down the Billinge attacker in the box. The penalty was converted and the scores were equal.

Manager Rob Hope brought himself on looking to unlock the home defence and despite further chances from Lee Boardman, Richard Chinn and Nathan Williams, Eagle were unable to grab a winner.
