WELCOME home Kevin Penny!

The flying winger marked his first home game for five years in Warrington colours with a Challenge Cup hat-trick in a 68-0 victory over Doncaster.

And his boss Tony Smith, who released Penny in 2010 before signing him back for 2014, was impressed.

The 26-year-old’s first try of the campaign, after scoring 10 in eight games on dual-registration terms with partner club Swinton Lions, was reward for supporting a break by fellow winger Rhys Evans.

His second showed stunning technique, keeping his body in the air over the touchline as he dived to touch down under pressure from a Doncaster defender.

And his hat-trick score was classic Penny, using his jet-heeled pace to cash in on a quick 20-metre tap restart by Ben Currie. He still had work to do though, burning off two closing chasers from the side and keeping his balance superbly after evading the diving tackle of Scotland international winger Dave Scott.

Smith said: “He was smart in the way he turned up for his tries. He’s progressing well.

“He read the play well and he scored in positions that I don’t think he would have scored in the past.”

Penny also saved at least one try. He flew in off his wing when there was a potential for a three-on-one overlap and his strong challenge prevented a certain score.

Well done Kevin, never put a foot wrong. The crowd really got behind him and were as pleased for him as Kevin must have been.

Impressive performance in both defence and attack albeit against Championship opposition. Bridge, Penny and England particularly took the eye. Let's give them all another chance this week in the must/should win game at Bradford. At least we now know we have the players to do well if we are relegated at the end of the season!!??
