AN historic sports car racer from Warrington is looking to set the pace this season despite a step up in class.
Martin Richardson, from Latchford, is once again competing in his 1965 MGB with the Historic Sports Car Club in a bid to win the Guards Trophy.
But with the Championship Classes changing to include cars up to 2.5 litre engine capacities – previously 2 litres – Richardson faces a tougher test this campaign.
However, the locksmith finished first in his class and set the class’ fastest lap in his latest outing at Thruxton Circuit near Andover, putting him third in the Championship after two rounds.
“This result, on top of a third at Donington Park two weeks earlier, means that after two rounds I am lying third overall in the championship,” he said. “A great start to the season.”
