WARRINGTON Town were left needing another three points to guarantee a play-off spot after defeat to promotion rivals Ramsbottom United on Friday.

Shaun Reid's side were leading 2-1 with three minutes left on the clock, but conceded twice to leave hand the hosts a valuable three points.

Skipper David Mannix put the Yellows ahead direct from a corner after 17 minutes which was cancelled out by a 36th-minute free kick from former Town player Owen Roberts.

A deflected effort from Ciaran Kilheeney on 80 minutes looked like giving Town the win, but a controversial penalty in the closing minutes was converted by Ramsbottom’s Lee Gaskell with the hosts then snatching victory deep in stoppage time through Scott Burton.

Town are back in action today, when they entertain Prescot Cables, kick off 3pm.

A victory should secure a home play-off place with Warrington then travelling away to Harrogate next Saturday for the final league game of the season.
