PHOENIX Fire ABC entertained a capacity crowd at Eagle Sports Social Centre in Great Sankey with 17 bouts.

Imad Nasseb, junior 49kg, won boxer of the evening with a classy display of boxing against very strong and determined opponent Declan McGunniness of Stockbridge ABC.

Imad boxed with excellent composure, variety of punching and movement to win a unanimous points' decision from the judges.

John Taylor, junior 48kg, and Charlie Hardman of Birkenhead Venture both won extra awards for participating in bout of the night, with an excellent display of skill and close range boxing throughout the three-round contest in which Taylor won again by unanimous decision, his clearer shots winning the day.

Sam Watson, junior 47kg, impressed with a unanimous points' decision against very talented opponent Leon Palomba of Tower Hill.

Sam boxed at long range throughout the contest preventing Leon from settling into any rhythm.

Elite lightweight Courtney Chadwick kept up his recent winning streak with a very close split decision win over Kane Gardner of Ardwick.

Both boxers were classy throughout the bout and matched each other throughout the contest.

Female junior Courtney Swanton, 49 kg, won a split decision against Billy Jean Franks of Larches and Savick in an excellent contest, with both boxers showcasing lots of skill.

Youth middleweight Ben Murphy and opponent Dan Meadows Astley VIP engaged in a quality hard-punching match.

Schoolboys Ben Robinson and Sam Sinnett both won unanimous points' decisions with clean boxing against Croxteth duo Elliot Dwyer and Ian Morris respectively.

Junior boxer George Farrelly also won a unanimous points' decision against Zak Corrie of Stockbridge ABC, George used excellent footwork and a tight defence to stifle his opponent’s attacks to take the decision.

Casey Brown junior, 63kg, won a clear points' decision against previously unbeaten Jack Benham of Barnstaple, Casey switched attack well against the much taller high quality boxer Benham.

Youth light-welter Jamie Hopwood sneaked home by a close split decision victory against Liam Laird also of Barnstaple.

Liam was aggressive throughout the contest with Jamie counter-punching throughout, Jamie's cleaner work took the eye of the judges catching Laird on the way in and out.

Debutant Jack Withe lost a close points' decision against Nick Forrest of Barnstaple, Jamie Aramayo lost a close decision against Mehran Khan of Hamer ABC.

James Mercer and Luke Brocklehurst also lost decisions against Connor Evans and Michael Kelly respectively, both boxers having great last rounds but not enough on the night to get the decisions.

Debutant Tom Worthington participated in a skills contest.

This was a great night of amateur boxing at its best, all the bouts were competitive with no stoppages.

The Phoenix boxers, whether their result was positive or negative, performed very well and bode well for the future.

The unique training programs that the club coaches use are know embedded solidly with all participants and tonight’s results were the outcome of that process.
