IN his quest to fish all our waters Alan Davenport visited the Bridgewater Canal and Rixton Claypits this week.

On the canal he float-fished mackerel and lamprey, roving between Houghs Bridge and the Toast Rack at Chester Road and caught a pike on each.

At the Claypits he netted a bream of 2lbs and a tench of 5lbs.

Eric Smith, with his 12-year-old, grandson Callum Postill, caught nine tench between them at Grey Mist Mere on Sunday. Callum had fish of 5lbs 14ozs 0drms, 5-1-0, 4-10-0, 4-8-0, and a personal best weighing 6-1-0.

Not to be completely outdone by his protégé, Eric had fish of 7lbs, 6-4-0, and two around 5½lbs.

All the fish were caught on a maggot feeder rig using double red maggot on the hook.

on a visit to Rixton Claypits Dave Poole landed his first tench of the year that fell to inline feeder tactics and double dead red maggot on the hook. It was a new PB and weighed 6-2-0.

The fish came as part of a cracking bream catch of 15 to 20 fish all around 2 to 3lbs.

The fourth round of the Cheshire Spring League will be fished on the Macclesfield Canal at Henshall Drive on Saturday. Bob Campbell currently heads the leader board with three points closely followed by match ace Phil Cross.

Alan Brown won his second match of the year in our Disabled and Over 60s event on Monday with almost 1lb to spare over his nearest challenger, Jimmy Byrne. Alan put 3-5-0 on the scales against Jimmy’s 2-7-0.

Match organiser John Dagnall had a bit of bad luck, breaking three sections of his pole, including the 13-metre element. Ouch!

There is a working party at Statham Pool on Saturday starting at 10am if you fancy helping to improve your fishing. Just turn up.
