WARRINGTON Athletics Club provided seven runners for the Warrington ParkRun on Saturday setting four age group course records.

Fifteen-year-old Leighton Sharman made his debut, winning in 17mins 41secs to set a record for men’s 15 to 17 years.

Sam Evans, 12, followed in fifth place clocking 18mins 9secs to demolish the previous record for boys’ 11 to 14 years.

Steve Burthem came 17th and equalled his best time for the course with 19mins 49secs, finishing first in the 50 to 54 years.

Dave Tomkins, first in the 65 to 69 age group, improved his own course record to 22mins 25secs.

The club’s youngest runner, seven-year-old Molly Wormald, came 91st and reduced her previous best time from 27mins 4secs to 25mins 33secs.

Molly is in the junior women’s up to 10 years age group, but if there was a record for her age she would surely have set a new one.

Next in was 16-year-old Hannah Meisel, who came to Britain on a programme from Germany for a school year designed to understand British culture and improve her English skills.

Hannah finished in 93rd, setting a course record for the women’s 15 to 17 age group with 25mins 33secs.

The final runner was Neville Jones in 199th place in 36mins 4secs, of the 75 to 79 age group, but outside his course record.
