THE third round of the Cheshire Spring League was fished on Saturday between bridges Houghs and the Toast Rack.

Bob Campbell’s single point section score, after being fourth overall on the day, keeps him in the lead with a three points tally.

He is closely followed by Phil Cross on four. Jimmy Byrne and Martin Lenihan fished as guests, with Byrne the individual winner with a nice net of silver fish for 6lbs 10ozs 10drs. Lenihan was second with 4-0-4.

George Hollis enjoyed his first win of 2014 in our Disabled and Over 60s match this week. Only 4ozs separated the top three on the Trent and Mersey Canal at Farm Road.

Hollis used his vast knowledge of this fishery to his advantage with a net of 3-6-0.

Lewis Harmes, aged 13, had a good session on the Mount with his uncle, who landed eight carp taken on a helicopter rig, with the biggest being 14lbs. Lewis caught two commons which were around 9lbs and 7lbs.

At Woodshaw Reservoir Ian Smythe enjoyed some cracking sport with crucians and roach for an estimated 20lbs-plus net of fish. He fished the pole at five metres and alternated between his homemade paste concoction and maggot.

If you fancy some feeder fishing, the middle lake at Worthington is worth a visit for bream averaging 3lbs with occasional larger specimens and some plump roach. Don’t forget the smallest reservoir, Adlington, is closed until June 16. Any person caught leaving litter will be banned.

I would ask all members to keep their eyes peeled for poachers fishing our river fisheries during the coarse fish close-season, as well as for any pollution incidents. Call the Environment Agency incident line immediately on 0800 807060 and myself.

Keep those catch reports coming in. Either call me on 01928 716238 or email frank@warrington-anglers.org.uk. HQ 52, Parker Street is open as usual 7pm to 9pm tomorrow, Friday, for subscriptions, new memberships, night permits, or any queries.
