WARRINGTON Rowing Club enjoyed a record medal haul during the National Junior Sculling Head races at Dorney Lake, home of London 2012’s Olympic Rowing Regatta.

Nine Warrington crews battled it out against the best clubs from all over the UK in races consisting of two 1,800m time trials; the first one up the course and the second returning back towards the finish area.

These times are added together for an overall time and rank order.

Warrington’s crews performed well, harvesting a club record three silvers and a gold to place well on the medals table.

The first two crews on the medal rostrum were from the women’s J16 squad.

The A crew of Ayesha Wooler, Pippa Curran, Gina Tarpey and Lucy Stanhope produced the fastest first leg of all 39 crews in their division, but slowed slightly on the return allowing Henley Rowing Club to snatch the gold medal.

The B crew of Ellie Mcloughlin, Holly Robinson, Jess Swindles and Megan Dunbavand finished in the top 20, beating the other seven B crews as well as nine A crews to earn a gold medal and prove the strength in depth of the squad.

The boys’ J14 A crew of Tom Carroll, Connor Guerin, Alastair Eaves, Matthew Baguely and cox Becky Marsh managed to get ahead of all but one of their 40 opponents with Trentham Rowing Club narrowly squeezing them into silver medal position.

The B crew of Oliver Houghton, Jack Bennett, Louis Molloy, Tom Reed and cox Lucy Grace then raced to a splendid 16th position in the same race.

This finish enabled them to win the silver for the second best B crew, losing out to a crew from Westminster School.
