WARRINGTON Athletics Club boasted 15 runners representing Cheshire, and one for Greater Manchester, at the English Schools' Cross Country Championships at Castle Donnington, Leicestershire on Saturday, March 15.

Representing Greater Manchester, Harriet Knowles-Jones continued an excellent season by winning the intermediate girls’ race by 10 seconds in a time of 12mins 27secs, leading her team to the bronze medal.

Behind Knowles-Jones, in 88th place, was Vicky Ramsbottom in 14mins 16secs with Sarah McGrail coming 134th in 14mins 35secs to help Cheshire finish 12th in the team event.

In 200th place was Olivia Bush with 15mins 4secs.

Knowles-Jones will now represent English Schools in the SIAB Cross Country International at Canon Slade School, Bolton on Saturday.

In the junior girls’ race, Lauren Ferris finished 35th with a time of 10mins 58secs and Milly Boyer came 150th in 11mins 41secs, helping the team to 25th place.

Isabelle Trevithick finished in 300th place in 12mins 23secs.

In the senior girls’ race, Alysha Goddard secured 104th place in 17mins 27secs as the team finished 13th, while Holly Tidd made 199th place in 18mins 35secs.

In the senior boys’ race, Cameron Field finished 23rd in 24mins 44secs to lead the team to 16th and was followed home by Liam Burthem in 89th in 25mins 52secs.

In the intermediate boys’ race, Daniel Evans in 67th place in 20mins 14secs and Leighton Sharman in 179th place in 21mins 36secs both counted for the 14th-placed team while Owen Lee finished in 214th place in 21mins 55secs.

In the junior boys’ race, after falling at the start Jack Stubbings ran excellently to finish in 56th in 15mins 25secs, while Sam Rostron finished in 197th place in 16mins 17secs with both counting in the 14th-placed team.
