Culcheth Eagles 18 Wigan St Pats 20

CULCHETH Eagles started the season with a rusty performance against an organised St Pats outfit.

A first half with poor set completion and unforced errors saw the home team go into the break trailing 6-16, with a try from Tom Blohm on his return to game, after his Indian sabatical.

Eagles started to settle into the game in the second half and produced some much better rugby outscoring the visitors with tries from Jimmy Tunstall and Brett Mikalauskas on his debut in Culcheth colours.

James Wilde was on form today as he converted all three tries.

Eagles’ squad today included six players who had come up through the junior ranks of the club, including man of the match Danny Martin, who was a Culcheth Lad until being signed for a spell at Warrington at 16.
